Vacuum impregnation

£1800.00

Vacuum impregnation is used for improving the quality of preparation on porous and friable samples.

The Vacuum Impregnator is designed for use with porous samples.  It allows the de-gassing of the pores of the material and replacement with cold-mounting resin.  It comprises a 100mm diameter transparent work chamber, which is pumped by an integral diaphram pump to a low vacuum.

The sample is placed in a silicon rubber mould inside the work chamber; the hole in the top plate of the work chamber is sealed with the bottom surface of another silicon rubber mould, which contains a quantity of resin.

Once the sample is de-gassed, a glass rod is used to open a flap in the resin container and allow the resin to fill the sample mould.  On releasing the pressure, resin is forced into the pores of the material and the sample is embedded in the mould. An optional 150mm work chamber is available for larger samples.
