Hardness Testing

Hardness testing is used for the measurement of mechanical properties. High quality equipment will give reliable and accurate results.

Hardness testing is a mechanical test to measure a materials resistance to deformation. Spectrographic offer a wide range of hardness testing systems to suit most hardness testing applications.

A range of hardness testing methods have been developed for testing applications.  Some systems offer a quick hardness result on the component surface and other system require metallurgical preparation to ensure correct results are attained.

It is important to understand which test should be used for your component or material type and the method of testing which care to ensure a consistant and suitable surface is used for testing.

Hardness test methods have been developed to control of the following features:

  • Indenter type
  • Test duration
  • Test load

Hardness testing is carried out in accordance to international specifications and certified equipment should be used with trained personnel carrying out the test.
